The participants of the event organized by the Moscow State Linguistic University and the Kyrgyz Embassy to Russia, listened to a number of reports including one by Kyrgyz Ambassador to Russia Bolot Otunbayev. During his speech, Otunbayev mentioned that the roundtable was the first event in a series of activities devoted to Aitmatov’s 90th anniversary in 2018.
The conference was attended by MSLU rector Irina Kraeva, Ivan Belekov, member of Russia's State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs, editor-in-chief of Druzhba Narodov Alexander Ebanoidze, Professor of Moscow State University Marklen Konurbayev. The speakers shared their memories and impressions on Chinghiz Aitmatov’s works and influenced that they had on their early life.
All the reports focused on the need to spread the author’s moral and spiritual views, particularly among the younger generation, that underpinned his creative works in an attempt to counter the process of moral decay caused by the onset of globalization.
Selim Vagabov, member of Russia – Islamic world strategic vision group, also took part in the roundtable. He talked about the Group’s activities to promote Aitmatov’s works and celebrate his anniversary, achievements and plans. He also emphasized that the idea to further international dialogue and partnership of civilizations voiced by Aitmatov is one of the Group’s goals.
