"Preparations are underway, the talks in Astana may be held on Feb 15-16," said Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, speaking to the journalists during her regular briefing on international issues.

Late December the representatives of the Syrian government and the opposition agreed to a broad ceasefire and expressed willingness to start peace talks. A meeting in Kazakhstan's capital of Astana was held to discuss the ceasefire.

Russia believes it is important to continued coordination of these issues in the Russia - Turkey - Iran format and to ensure interaction with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.
