The successful air campaign by the Russian military against ISIS helped to regain momentum and paved the way for a breakthrough in relations between Russia, Turkey and Iran, the Federal News Agency quotes Veniamin Popov, coordinator of the Russia Islamic World strategic vision group, as saying.

"We are witnessing a critical turning point in the Syrian crisis when there is an opportunity to unite forces of a number of countries against one enemy – ISIS – and to bring the war that turned life into a nightmare for the majority of the Syrian population to an end," said Mr. Popov.

The Syrian talks in Astana are expected to take place on Feb 15-16. The stakeholders will have a chance to discuss ways to ensure a sustainable ceasefire and sanctions for those who might seek to violate it.
