The Muslims around the world are marking the Islamic New Year. Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, Chairman of the Council of Muftis and member of the RIW group sent in his congratulations.

In his statement, the mufti of Tatarstan and member of the Russia – Islamic World group Kamil Samigullin focused on the importance of the Islamic New Year and emigration of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina.

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov wished Muslims to preserve and improve the human qualities that Islam rests on – politeness, courtesy, taking care of the weak, infirm and lonely.

«This is something we have to remember, something we have to be become. I hope that Allah will show mercy to his followers and let the year 1439 be the time when we restore peace and mutual accord between countries and nations on planet Earth,” said Mr. Kadyrov.

The first day of the year is observed on the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar. The first Islamic year begins in 622 AD with the emigration of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina, known as the Hijra. Muharram is one of the four sacred months in the Islamic Calendar when any military action or conflicts are banned.
